1. Advertisement

1. Are you interested in watching TV advertisements or internet advertisements?

I mostly watch TV commercials because I often watch different programs when I get

home from school every day. In addition, I don’t normally spend so much time on the

internet these days. commercial 广告

normally 通常

2. What kinds of advertisements do you dislike?

I am not that into ads related to fast food because I think they just push people to eat

unhealthy food. In my opinion, this kind of advertisement should be prohibited, especially

to young viewers. ad 广告

be prohibited 被禁止

viewers 观众,观看者

3. Do you share advertisements with others?

Not really. I mean we can all see similar commercials anyway, and therefore, there’s

nothing much to share. I guess it is not a hot topic people would talk about these days. commercial 广告

there’s nothing much to share 没什么好分享的

hot topic 热门话题

4. Do you want to work in advertising in the future?

2. Books and reading habits

1. Do you often read books? When?

Definitely yes. That is actually one of my hobbies that is always present every weekend.

It's one way for me to improve my reading skills while also expanding my vocabulary and

understanding. I look forward to reading another novel this weekend. 2. Do you read differently now than you did before?

Yes, it is. Due to various apps created that can serve as sources of information, my

reading time lessened. I usually find myself watching short videos instead of reading. I am

also interested in spending a lot of time in online stores because it is the trend nowadays, especially since we are limited in our ability to go out. In fact, habits can also change as

time goes by. as time goes by 随着时间的推移

3. Have you ever read a novel that has been adapted into a film?

I did it once and then never did it again. This is because I found that the details in the film

are not exactly similar to what I read in the book. I feel like my expectations were not met

and the excitement was gone. Though, the movie and the book are both great

masterpieces that the audience would surely love. masterpieces 杰作

4. Which do you prefer, reading books or watching movies?

I love both of them but I’d choose one depending on my location. When I am away, I

always bring one or two books with me since I always kill time by reading books. It's

incredibly convenient and straightforward. However, when I am home and just want to

relax, watching films is always the first thing that comes to my mind.

3. Boring things

1. What kinds of things are boring to you?

Doing extremely arduous and rigorous tasks would be a real snoozer for me. Every time I

encounter some academic work that I couldn’t figure out, everything seems to be duller. Perhaps that’s because they burn me out. On top of that, when I'm either in traffic jams or

by just standing in line, boredom would kick in. arduous 艰苦的;艰难的

2. What will you do when you feel bored?

The best approach for me to beat boredom is to get rid of my monotonous task for a

while and take a breather. More often than not, I would go on an excursion to the

countryside to breathe a different kind of air. From time to time, I would enjoy my goof-off

time by hanging out with my friends or even doing extreme sports like bungee-jumping or

3. What was the most boring thing you did when you were young?

When I was a kid, I was forced to do household chores. So, the dullest activities I had

were tidying up the house and washing the dishes simply because we didn't have cleaning

robots and modern dishwashers back then so I had to do everything manually. It was not

only monotonous but also exhausted!

4. Do you think school is boring?

Well, far from it. In general, schools are engaging. First, it's where you'll encounter most

of the amazing people in your life who might become your great friends. Second, it's

where you'll get all of the professional insights that might serve as your stepping stone to

a brighter future.

professional insights 专业见解

4. Collecting things

1. Do you collect things?

No, I don’t. I used to, but that didn’t work for me. I’m a messy person, so if I collect stuff,

it’d be all over the place. I want to get rid of clutter as doing so cleans up the chaos that is

in my life. Ever since I read Maria Kondo’s bestseller, "The life-changing magic of Tidying

Up" I packed up my collection in a big box, and stored them in the attic. My room is

spick-and-span ever since; no longer topsy-turvy. messy 邋遢的

2. Are there any things you keep from childhood?

No, unfortunately, I’ve lost most of them. They’ve gotten misplaced or damaged over time. Good thing, I’ve still got an album full of childhood memories; snapshots of milestone

moments, such as my graduation day, or an important family event. snapshot 快照;抓拍的照片

milestone 里程碑;重大事件;重要阶段

3. Would you keep old things for a long time? Why?

I probably wouldn’t. Knowing myself, a messy person, those things would be lost or add to

the clutter in my room. Besides, I have the itch to update my stuff to the latest upgrades. For example, I’ve traded my second-generation smartphone for the newest one.

itch 渴望

4. Where do you usually keep things you need?

The things I immediately need are usually cash, my smartphone, and my notebook. I keep

them anywhere visible, so I could easily locate them. They’re either inside a bag or a

wallet. As for toiletries, or cosmetics, they are where they should be; on a rack in the

bathroom or on top of my vanity table. visible

Describe a quiet place you like to go

You should say:

Where it is

How you knew it

How often you go there

What you do there

And explain how you feel about the place

I am the type of person who loves to be alone in a tranquil(安静的)place so I have a

variety of options(很多选择).But today I have chosen to talk about an old treehouse

which is just located a stone’s throw away from(离...很近距离) my home.When I was a

kid, my bosom(知心朋友) friends and I used to hang out in this place but we all live in

different cities now and I am the only one left in our hometown.I normally visit this old

treehouse once a week because it has a serene(平静的) atmosphere that can help me

clear my mind and recharge my batteries(给自己充电).This is my go-to place whenever

I feel down in the dumps(抑郁) because being in a peaceful atmosphere can help me

kick back and relax(放松). More often than not(通常), I paint some pictures in this spot

(地方) and I enjoy soft music on my phone while hearing the birds chirping(鸟叫声)

clearly. At the same time, This is where I would tackle(解决) all of my academic tasks

since I can see the green trees and enjoy the fresh air after a long day's work.I can find

solitude(幽静) in this place, being away from the hustle and bustle of the concrete

jungle(混凝土丛林的喧嚣) I live in. 1. Is it easy to find quiet places in your country? Why?

Unfortunately, nowadays, it has become increasingly difficult as cities located calm

spaces in urban jungles have developed by leaps and bounds. For starters, the number of automobiles on the road had dramatically increased especially

第14页

during rush hours. There’s always bumper-to-bumper traffic, so the boisterous sounds

from the commuters and the car horns are totally annoying. To make matters worse, even if you visit some places of interest in the countryside, they

would be jam-packed with tourists making the place chaotic. calm spaces 平静的空间

urban jungles 城市丛林

leaps and bounds 极其迅速地

bumper-to-bumper traffic 拥堵的交通

boisterous sounds 喧闹的声音

car horns 汽车喇叭

chaotic 混乱的

2. Why do old people prefer to live in quiet places?

Oldsters generally cannot tolerate loud and unnecessary noises, so they prefer to settle

down in places where they can find serenity. You know, senior citizens find it extremely challenging to have a sound sleep, so being in

a place that lacks disturbance is like a lullaby for them to have a deep sleep. What's more crucial is that because noise might worsen their tension, putting down their

roots in such areas can aid them in reducing their anxiety.

disturbance 干扰

lullaby 催眠曲

putting down their roots 放下他们的根

3. Why are there more noises made at home now than in the past?

We used to live in a low-tech world where there were no cellphones or devices that may

cause noise levels; in fact, we could even hear the sound of a river flowing and the birds

tweeting in the morning.

But, nowadays, we have various cutting-edge appliances and machines that could create

not only pleasing sounds but also clatters, from the rattling of plates in the sophisticated

dishwashers to the music played in the boom boxes, you name it.

4. Why do some people like to use noise as background sound when they are

working or studying?

Although the majority of people think that a silent place can help them knuckle down in

their tasks, research reveals that background noise and even music can activate the brain

cells, thus, making some individuals more efficient and effective. What I mean is that it has a subconscious effect on the human brain that can help us be

more focused. At the same time, listening to hums and songs may reinvigorate people because a placid

environment can sometimes induce drowsiness or even lethargy. knuckle down 开始认真工作

2. 帮助小孩

Describe a time when you helped a child

You should say:

When it was

How you helped him/her

Why you helped him/her

And how you felt about it

I’d like to talk about a certain moment wherein I extended a helping hand(伸出援手) to a

mere kid. When I was in my high school years, you see, I have this natural skill to tutor kids who are

younger than me. It happened to be that my cousin, who had just started her primary

school years, asked me to help her with her homework. Since her mom and dad were

busy at work, no one could really help her finish the tasks. And so, I extended help to her. To my surprise(让我惊讶的是), she was just letting me finish everything that she should

have written on her own. Moreover, I tried to stop what I was doing and tried to tell her I won’t be able to help her if

she would not learn to do it by herself. After that, she cried, saying that she was having a

hard time doing(做某事有困难) all the processes. So, I tried to come up with(想出) a

better solution, rather than crossing the line(越线) and finishing it on my own. As a good

idea that came into my mind(想起,想到), I printed some alphabets(字母表) which were

dotted(由点构成的) and gave them to her to trace(勾出轮廓,描摹). At first, she found

it boring again, maybe because of her playful nature(爱玩的天性), but as she went along

(进行,前进), she somewhat(有点) didn't realize that she could really write the alphabet

correctly already. At that point in time, I was able to feel such confidence and an overwhelming feeling of

trying to mentor(指导) someone who was able to apply effort effectively. I was moved

(感动的,触动的)and honored(荣幸的)to teach her to write her name as well. After that, her mom told me to help her when studying and that she would give me extra money as

an allowance(补贴) as well. The key insigh(t 深刻见解)I got from this experience is, tell me and I forget, teach me and

I remember, involve me and I learn, a famous quotation from Benjamin Franklin. That’s all. 1. Do you often help kids? How?

Basically, I tend to extend most of my help to youngsters. The reason is that our family has

so many kids and I would also admit how fascinated I am with getting along with them. As

I was saying, kids are very playful and sometimes, in order to make them safe, there

should be someone to look after them most of the time. So, what I do is, I try to watch over

them while they are playing, and whenever they start to touch things that might bring

some danger, I try to assist them instead of trying to deprive them of it. I believe that is

one good way to help kids, which is to guide them without stifling their curiosity. watch over 照看

danger 危险

deprive 剥夺

stifle 扼杀

2. Why is it necessary to do volunteer services?

Well, I guess, volunteering programs encourage young people to think of others and

become compassionate young adults. It is the perfect way to discover something you

may be really good at as you develop a new skill. To add more, volunteering brings

together a diverse range of people from all walks of life. What I mean is that it keeps you

in regular contact with others and helps you develop a solid support system, which in turn

protects you against stress and depression when you're going through challenging times. compassionate 有同情心的

diverse 多样的

from all walks of life 来自各行各业

solid 可靠的,坚固的

3. What can schools do to develop students' awareness of volunteering?

Well, I suppose, academies can play a great role in imparting knowledge and virtues at

once to their students. With that said, learning should include the promotion of extending

help to people in need. Institutions should pass some resolutions to require students to

engage in feeding programs for the malnourished children or other projects that help less

fortunate people. This should be a part of their homework and will be graded by their

respective teachers. I think, in a way, this method will implant natural goodwill in students

that they will surely carry in their lives. virtue 美德

malnourished children 营养不良的儿童

implant 灌输

4. Who benefit more from the volunteer services, the volunteers or the people

helped?

If you ask me, I’d say it’s two-way beneficial. The reason is that the good effect reflects on

3. 保健方式

Describe something you do to keep fit and healthy

You should say:

What it is

When you do it

Who you do it with

Why it is important to keep fit and healthy

And explain why it can help you keep fit and healthy

As a matter of fact, I grew up in a health-conscious(注重健康的) household, so I have

adopted(采取,采用) healthy habits since I was young. I can vividly recall that my father

used to have me get up early in the morning and then take me to a local high school

playground for some light exercise. Nowadays, I get out of bed at about 5:30 a.m., put on my joggers and trainers, and go for

a one-hour walk before I start my day. I would then begin walking down the public park

close to my apartment, but if I'm not in the mood(没心情) for a walk, I would ride my

bicycle since it is more convenient. I firmly believe that the morning air is incredibly

beneficial to one's health since the air and environment are fresher in the morning than at

any other time of the day. So inhaling ( 吸 入 ) fresh air, as well as exercising, is

unquestionably a healthy practice. Besides, walking was proven to improve

cardiovascular(心血管的) fitness and muscle endurance(耐力). Also, my father always

tells me that a sound mind rests on a fit body, and I have experienced firsthand(直接地)

that this habit is advantageous to my overall physical health and mental well-being.

I started doing this early morning exercise a few years ago, but now I almost always have

two of my friends or cousins with me as they also take pleasure in(乐于,喜欢)exercising. However, I can only wish all of us would engage in(参与) any fitness activity since it will

benefit us in the long run. 1. How do children and old people keep fit and healthy?

I firmly believe that physical fitness is crucial for children's growth to develop strength and

coordination. Thus, their guardians should supervise them to engage in physical

activities such as running, swimming, and cycling. On the other hand, the elderly have

always been known to attend square dancing regularly or go for a walk every night after

dinner. All of these activities mentioned tend to burn calories, strengthen bones, and help

the cardiovascular system. coordination 协调能力

2. What do people normally do to keep fit and healthy in your country?

Well, I mentioned earlier that seniors regularly take part in square dancing or go for a

stroll after dinner, and in addition to that, they like to watch their diet closely. Believe it or

not, they're not fond of barbeque because they strongly believe it's unhealthy. Thus, they

mostly consume several kinds of veggies, fish, and fruits. On the other hand, youngsters

and middle-aged people love to indulge in barbeque once in a while, but they make sure

to sweat off all the unwanted calories after. Most of them go swimming and jogging, and if

3. How can parents help and guide their kids to keep healthy?

Well, first and foremost, parents should be role models because children enjoy emulating

what they see around them. So to develop fitness in their kids, parents should establish

regular workout routines in hopes that their children will be naturally encouraged to tag

along. Furthermore, they should stay away from fast food or any other junk food so that

children will develop desirable eating habits at a young age. Anyhow, I believe that health

4. Do you think it is a good way for governments to use the power of idol to help

people to build health awareness?

Definitely, from what I have observed, superstars these days are taking advantage of their

platforms to raise awareness of mental health. As you know, some of them also struggle

with anxiety and depression, so they basically use their voices to let people know that

they're not alone. With this in mind, I believe that if the government would encourage them

to also raise more consciousness about physical health, I imagine that it would be

effective. It will surely not just reach their fans but also other people. raise awareness 提升意识

4. 传统产品

Describe a traditional product in your country

You should say:

What it is

When you tried this product for the first time

What it is made of

And explain how you feel about it

Well, there are many traditional products in China, mainly because it has a long history. For instance, compass, fireworks, and many more. But today let me talk about red paper

cuttings which are considered a national symbol of China. It usually represents good luck

and prosperity(兴旺;繁荣).

I remembered, the first time I tried it was 12 years ago. I was about 8 years old and we

were asked by our teachers to bring some red lanterns or red paper cuts. My mother

patiently taught me the process but I must admit, it wasn’t a piece of cake. As a matter of

fact, at first, I was struggling. I had to consume a lot of time and energy to fold the paper

but it wasn’t going my way(但它并不如我所愿). Aside from that, I have been wasting a lot

of paper so of course, it’s not eco-friendly(环保的). I was becoming frustrated. I was about

to quit and just accept the sad truth that I don’t have a knack for(对....不擅长) paper

cuttings and convinced myself that it would be a lot easier and much better if we just

bought one. However, because of my mother’s positivity, she insisted that everything at

first is quite difficult and that constant practice makes perfect(熟能生巧). Although it was

with a heavy heart that I continued, I realized that as time passed by, I was getting the

hang of it(我正在掌握诀窍). Eventually, I realized I have a knack for it then surprisingly, it is

now one of my hobbies. I am now able to create unique and innovative(创新的) designs

thanks to hard work and my mom’s words of wisdom(智慧之言). 1. Why are traditional products important?

inanimate objects by others, but traditional products are reminders of our past. They keep

our heritage alive despite the time. Ultimately, traditional products serve as reminders to

love and give importance to our land. merely inanimate objects 只不过是无生命的物体

2. Do you think tradition is important for a country? Why?

Of course! Tradition is what makes a country stand out and different from the rest. It

distinguishes other places from theirs, and serve as homage to their ancestors. Tradition

should be kept alive as these practices are what make the country united. They bring back

memories of the past, and in return, help us to be connected to each other through our

shared experiences. Moreover, these traditions can also be used as a reference for our

country’s future. stand out 脱颖而出

area. It has become a stable in most Chinese, and even neighboring Asian countries. It

usually includes cinnamon twigs, ginseng, wolf berries, licorice and goji berries. These

products have been around for a number of centuries and still remain relevant since it

relies on natural medicine to treat all sorts of illnesses. Elders believe that traditional

5. 丢东西的经历

Describe an occasion that you lost something

You should say:

What you lost

When and where you lost it

What you did to find it

And explain how you felt about it

This topic made me walk down memory lane(追忆往事)when I lost my school ID during

the second semester of my sophomore yea(r 大学二年级). I'm a cautious(小心的)person, but there was a time when I indeed mistakenly dropped something somewhere. In fact, I

had to go through a sequence of(一系列的) events after losing my ID, which is probably

the reason why I remember this experience so well. On that day, I was on my way to school, and I recall placing my ID card in my pocket as I

took the bus away. I got off(下车)carefreely(悠闲地) and headed to the library, where

every student was mandated(被强制要求) to show their ID card. Naturally, I slid my

hands into my pocket to take it out then I slowly realized that my ID was missing. I

searched every nook(角落) and crevice(夹缝) of my outfit, my handbag, and even the

path I followed to the library, but to no avail(徒劳无功). I was in desperate need as I

needed my ID to access the teaching building, library, labs, and other facilities.

I felt terrible and blamed myself for being such a sloppy(马虎的) person. I applied to the

university administration for a new card, but I had to get an earful(得到数落/抱怨) from

the admin staff before they told me that I would have to wait for a week to get a

replacement card. Consequently, they only gave me a temporary pass so I could acquire

entry to the school's amenities. In a nutshell(简单地说), that day was an absolute

nightmare.

1. What kinds of things do people usually lose?

Well, I reckon that every one of us is capable of losing something, but probably the most

common thing we misplace is our phone. Maybe it's because we carry it with us

everywhere that we may unconsciously leave it to some places we've been. Moreover, I

believe that house or car keys can also be easily lost, including our glasses or even shoes. Therefore, anything can be literally dropped or misplaced. misplace 放错地方

unconsciously 无意识的

2. What do people often do when losing things?

I guess it depends on different situations because when people lose something valuable,

they're always likely to look for them. Thus, the first thing they might do is retrace their

steps and look around the spots where they could have dropped them. However, if they

misplace something unessential or inexpensive stuff, I believe they just usually let them

go. All in all, it varies on different circumstances. retrace 追溯

unessential or inexpensive 不重要或不贵的

3. Is it an effective way to use rewards to find lost things?

Well, some may say that sincere thanks are enough, but I genuinely believe that giving

back something is crucial. What's more, these people come forward to return something

sentimental or valuable to you, so it's just right to give a bit of a reward. Although their

effort and time are not purchasable, it's always proper to reciprocate them. Some of them

may decline, but it's better to offer something than nothing. sincere thanks 真诚的感谢

From my standpoint, some individuals are simply forgetful, which leads them to misplace

their stuff often. In addition, those who are highly disorganized or messy are also likely to

lose things. In fact, one of my roommates is like this, for she is the type of person who

would leave her belongings everywhere until it gets lost. So when she needs something,

in particular, she would have to scour her space or ask us to help her find it, which can be

6. 改变世界的发明

Describe an invention that has changed the world in a positive way

You should say:

What it is

What benefits it brought

How it influences people of different ages

And explain how it changed people's lives

Two years ago, all of us were helpless on how we could recover and escape from the

dangers and risks of Covid-19. We were all terrified(很害怕) as to how could we get back

to our normal lives. Until one day, through the aid of science and technology, a vaccine(疫

苗) was invented. This vaccine serves as a protection or shield(防护物) from catching the virus. This

vaccine is proven to(被证明) be effective in saving our lives—in protecting our physical

health. For people to be fully safe, they should get at least 2 shots and a booster(增强剂)

of it. There might have been some side effects(副作用) of it to others like chills, pains but

the positive effect of it lasts for a longer time.

I guess, almost all countries have already started rolling out(推出) and vaccinating their

people. The vaccine has different brands or producers. It has different types but the

commonality(共性) of these is just for the protection of everyone. As for minors(少数人), after getting vaccinated, they could go free outside already. Before, they were not allowed to go to school. Now, they are permitted again since they

already got enough protection from the vaccine. As for the elders, they could go back to their workplaces already. A vaccine is a

repairment for them before they could enter their respective offices. We must be thankful to science and technology that led to this life-saving invention. If not

because of the vaccine, our world might have been so dark, lonely and helpless for a

brighter tomorrow. 1. What is the most helpful innovation at home?

I believe that the television is the most helpful innovation at home. Firstly, it is means of

information. It could televise some documentaries or news reports which talk about

current events. Besides, it provides an avenue for family members to bond. Through

watching the TV together, family members could strengthen their relationship and share

2. What household appliances make us lazy?

I don’t believe that there is a specific appliance that makes people lazy. So what makes us

lazy? It is our lack of motivation or encouragement or direction to do something. I believe

that technology is there to help us and not to destroy us. The purpose of technology or

any household appliance is to make our lives easier and not to make us lazier. appliance 家用电器

3. What kind of invention can be used at school?

There are countless inventions which could surely help the teachers and learners at

school. Firstly, it would be computers or laptops. Through these inventions, students can

conduct their researches in a wider aspect. Instead of just depending on books, they could

explore more online world for more references. Besides, transportation is a useful

invention at school. Most schools are located in big cities. For students who come from far

places, transportations can bring them to school. Hence, a long distance won’t hinder

learning because there is transportation which will be a bridge between students and

schools.

4. Do you think Al will replace human teachers? Why?

I firmly disagree with this statement. At the end of the day, AI or technology still has its

limitations and weaknesses. There are a lot of things that a human teacher can do while

AI cannot. AI doesn't have compassion or heart to the students. It won’t totally feel the

needs and wants of a learner. As for a teacher, they have a heart that feels. If a student

has a problem, a teacher would feel. As for AI, it is nothing but just a piece of technology. compassion 同情怜悯心
