Contents 08 特别策划 | Special Focus Flower Exhibitions to Celebrate the Centenary Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China The year 2021 sees the start of the 14th Five-Year Plan period and the centenary of the Communist Party of China (CPC). From May 21 to July 2, the 10th China Flower Expo, co-hosted by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, the China Flower Association and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, will be held in Shanghai, the birthplace of the CPC. It will be the first flowers event held on an island, in a village and in a forest. Chongming District, as the main venue of the event, will become a “flower island on the sea”, where the blossoming flowers are displayed in its three zones, one exhibition center, one axis, six pavilions and six gardens to celebrate the prosperity of a stronger China. Yangzhou International Horticultural Exposition: To See a World in a Garden On April 8, 2021, the International Horticultural Exposition, the first one to be hosted in the Yangtze River Delta, will be hled in Yangzhou, which is hailed as the city born with the canal and the city famous with cuisine and culture. The Expo 2021 Yangzhou is. the right event to mark the centenary of the CPC. It puts focus on the integration of the expo events with post-expo functions, sustainable operation with themed exhibitions, and the exhibition industry with the cultural tourism industry. Inspired by “To see a world in a garden”, the expo will utilize the gardens to draw flower enthusiasts and tourists, and culture to attract friends from afar with its main display areas featuring “one axis”, “two arteries”, “five centers” and “eight zones”. Throughout the ages, Yangzhou has been well-known for its long history, rich resources, cultural heritage, traditional gardens and prosperous local economy. The garden with superb integration of stone mountains and stone creatures represents the acme of stone-stacking of Yangzhou gardens. Its superb techniques can be applied to contemporary urban gardens. 72 美丽乡村 | Beautiful Countryside Returning Fish Farming to Lake: An Ancient Fish Village Busting with New Vitality Yanhu Village, located by the Shaobo Lake in Yangzhou, is home to 61 square kilometers of national ecological reserve. It is a century-old fishing village with deep-rooted fishing culture, such as the mysterious ritual of sacrifice before fishing, the fishing skills that have been passed down from generation to generation, and flower-shaped buns. Thanks to the South-to-North Water Diversion Project and the Jianghuai Ecological Corridor Project, all the fishermen in the village have been offered new job opportunities. By relying on the rich resources, they have made full use of the Internet, the lake and the local fishing culture to embark on the path of developing eco-tourism, becoming an exemplary case of “beautiful countryside” in Yangzhou. Yongle Village: A Star of the Chongming Island Yongle Village in the Chongmingmiao Town of Shanghai has both island features and southern China traditions. It has abandoned the traditional agriculture of growing wheat, oilseed rape and rice since the reform and opening up. Instead, it has been the reputed base of saffron-based industries by building a saffron planting base, a research and development center for saffron industry, a recreation and healthcare center, and a highland of traditional Chinese medicine industry.
